CAPACITY BUILDING OF FUTURE DECISION MAKERS\n<\/h1>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Pakistani women make up almost 50% of the population, but their representation in politics and civic matters is much lower. \nTo counter this trend, Women\u2019s Digital League competed for and won a grant from the US State Department\u2019s Alumni Exchange International Fund to conduct capacity-building workshops in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir to empower young women with knowledge of their political rights and sensitize them to the need for their engagement and contribution in democratic processes.\nThey were further empowered with conceptual and practical tools for better understanding the role they, as future decision-makers, can play in leadership and how they can contribute to peace and conflict resolution activities.\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What this course is teaching and why.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Through capacity-building workshops, we hope to empower young women with conceptual and practical tools for better understanding the different roles they can play in political participation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We aim to develop their capacity for leadership roles and decision-making so they can contribute to politics and civic life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Session 1: How women can participate in democratic governance<\/span><\/p>

In this session, women were empowered with knowledge about First Information Reports, Right to Information, Public Petitions to the Senate, Harassment Against Women and Helplines and organizations where harassment can be reported.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

*If needed, democratic governance can be defined as <\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/i>Building open, responsive, and accountable institutions and processes that serve the needs and preferences of the public. Participation and Inclusion – Ensuring that all have the opportunity to participate and have a voice in how they will be governed.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>

Session 2: How women can participate in politics and political processes<\/span><\/p>

This session empowered women with knowledge about their rights during election processes like campaigning and voting, how to join a political party and the quota system for female politicians.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

We aimed to work with young women aged 18 – 26 who are future decision-makers in Pakistan\u2019s civic and political affairs.\nThey are students, young entrepreneurs, home makers and others who want a say in matters that affect them locally, provincially and nationally. \nFor the pilot project, we chose three cities each from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir and hope to expand to other regions as well. \n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
